Vice President, Portfolio Valuation (Crypto VC)

Houlihan Capital seeks a Vice President, Portfolio Valuation to assist fund clients in the fair value measurement of financial instruments issued by companies operating in the crypto / blockchain sector, adhering to ASC 820 and IFRS 13 standards. This role may also involve contributions to other valuation projects as per business requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and execute projects involving the valuation of investments in the crypto VC sector. Common investment types include SAFEs, SAFTs, tokens (“locked” and “unlocked”), equity (preferred and common), and convertible promissory notes.
- Collaborate closely with senior managers, including the head of our crypto VC practice, to ensure accurate and high-quality valuation deliverables.
- Participate in scoping of potential engagements as requested by Houlihan Capital’s business development team.
- Manage associates and senior associates on engagement teams, providing mentorship and building the firm’s culture.
- Develop a network of referral sources to proactively call on potential new clients.
- Engage in various other practice development activities (including professional association leadership, conference presentations, and technical publication).
- Work directly and communicate effectively with client senior level management, board members, shareholders and trustees throughout all phases of the engagement.
- Prepare client deliverables including valuation reports, presentations, information memoranda and marketing materials.
- Perform company, industry, market and competitor research and due diligence.
- Participate in client discussions and due diligence meetings.
- Review and analyze financial statements.
- Research comparable publicly traded companies.
- Exercise professional judgment on engagements by providing proactive solutions and recommendations.
- Understand the industries and markets that Houlihan Capital serves.
- Balance multiple client engagements and complete analyses and written reports within various deadlines.
Desired Experience and Skills:
- Master’s degree in finance, accounting or economics or MBA degree preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of related valuation experience with considerable experience with valuations for financial reporting (ASC 805, ASC 350, ASC 718).
- Active CPA, ASA and/or CFA or related professional credential preferred.
- Expertise in generally accepted analytical approaches and methods.
- Experience involving complex valuation and transaction advisory.
- Enthusiasm for the crypto / blockchain industry, and experience overcoming technical obstacles to accurate valuation in the space.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, as well as strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, work on multiple assignments and manage ambiguity.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint required.
- Working knowledge of Bloomberg or S&P Capital IQ a plus.
- Exhibit a professional, business-like demeanor.
