Software Engineer, Site Reliability

Packback is looking for a Software Engineer focused on Site Reliability Engineering to support our mission to awaken and fuel the lifelong curiosity in every student. As a software engineer at Packback, you will be a key owner of the infrastructure that powers our platform, and a core member of the team focused on providing a delightful developer experience.

Packback’s A.I.-powered platform is used by educators in K-12 and higher education to help their students fall in love with the subject matter, drive personalized learning, and most importantly, quantify and improve student critical thinking skills.

Key job duties include communicating well, providing thoughtful feedback to teammates, pairing, actively improving our team knowledge base, and of course, writing code. You’ll be collaborating with our product team to design and implement new features, execute projects to improve the developer experience and build highly reliable, scalable, and performant infrastructure.

Requirements:

We’re looking for a strong software engineer who also has experience in infrastructure, devops, or site reliability engineering roles. To succeed, you’ll need to leverage your broad experience to support application development teams throughout the software development lifecycle, empower those teams to achieve their SLOs, build infrastructure that allows Packback’s products to scale reliably, and ensure a delightful development experience for every developer at Packback.

Key Job Duties Include:

• Building and improving Packback’s approach to infrastructure-as-code (IaC)
• Making Packback’s CI/CD process more efficient and reliable
• Design, build, and maintain scalable cloud infrastructure to support Packback’s growing product suite
• Ensure service reliability, availability, and performance through building out thorough observability practices with proactive monitoring and alerting
• Develop and implement tools that enable application developers to provision and maintain infrastructure for their applications

Additionally, We’re Looking For:

• 3+ years of experience in software engineering and/or site reliability engineering
• Experience with orchestrating platforms in Kubernetes
• Experience with building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, containerization, and orchestration
• Proficiency with a scripting language such as Python or Bash.

It’s Great If You Have:

• Experience with helm and terraform
• Experience working on highly scalable cloud infrastructures
• Comfort with Linux/UNIX systems
• Open-source contributions with a variety of technologies
• Startup or small company experience

Competitive Salary and Benefits: The salary range for this position is $108,000 – $120,000 annually + bonus. We set clear expectations for professional growth and offer an annual learning and development stipend.
