DevOps Engineer
At Thirdfort, we’re working to build an outstanding engineering culture that empowers our team to do their best work. We have a culture which cultivates an honest and open environment, where everyone’s opinions are heard and valued.
We are looking for a DevOps Engineer with solid knowledge of GCP to join our DevOps team. Sitting within the broader engineering function, you will up-skill and enable our engineering teams, ensuring they have the tools and knowledge necessary to deliver high-quality features swiftly and efficiently. You will enable our product engineering teams to understand and build out their cloud infrastructure, ensuring systems are reliable and observable. You will proactively anticipate scaling and performance issues, and decrease cycle time through establishing and maintaining effective CI/CD. You will also contribute directly to feature delivery by participating in software design, development and testing.
Our Product and Tech teams are remote first and so this individual can be based anywhere in the UK. This does not mean though that our remote first team aren’t welcome in our offices as we value the times when we can come together in person. Ultimately we trust our team to work in the way that suits them best. Please note we’re unfortunately unable to offer visa sponsorship for this role.
As a DevOps Engineer, you will:
- Work closely with stream aligned feature teams to understand their Cloud (GCP) infrastructure needs, anticipate performance and flexibility issues, and ensure appropriate monitoring and alerting is in place.
- Closely collaborate with feature teams on CI/CD pipelines, reducing cycle time, and increasing quality and deployment frequency.
- Evolve and improve the implementation of Infrastructure as Code.
- Participate in the standardisation of networking, infrastructure, disaster & recovery and observability across teams.
- Mentor and up-skill teams on infrastructure and continuous delivery.
- Champion security and privacy when crafting solutions and pragmatically reviewing other engineers’ Pull Requests.
- Be open to challenges and approach tasks with a pragmatic perspective.
We’re looking for someone who:
- Has good experience with using Google Cloud Platform in production (Cloud Run, GKE, Cloud SQL, BigQuery, PubSub, Private Service Connect etc.)
- Has experience building scalable and cost effective cloud native infrastructure in production in a dynamic startup/scale-up environment.
- Has hands on experience with monitoring system health, performance and costs in a Cloud environment.
- Has some experience developing production applications in one or more mainstream programming languages (e.g Go, Java, Typescript etc. – not only purely declarative configuration formats like YAML) and is happy to get stuck in along side software engineers to fix issues and support feature delivery.
- Cares deeply about the quality, consistency and scalability at the whole system level and knows how to analyse technical designs with these in mind.
- Can communicate complex topics with stakeholders of varying technical ability and can generate buy in for new concepts.
- Has implemented effective alerting strategies that enable the detection and avoidance of issues that affect service delivery.
- Has a proven track record of creating and maintaining front-to-back CI/CD with a good understanding of what enables engineering success.
- Has experience with incident response, including preparation, run books, response team organisation, incident communication and technical remediation.
Studies show that women and other less represented groups are less likely to apply for roles unless they meet every requirement. We believe in building a diverse team, valuing different skills and experiences and so if you don’t think you have all the requirements listed here but feel this could be a role and environment you’d thrive in, we would still love for you to apply.

We’ll also have open conversations with you throughout the interview process (starting in the first stage call) so we can be as open as possible about compensation as we understand how important it is to ensure we’re aligned.

We place a strong focus on Security first given what we do, extending this to our team’s physical, mental and financial security to support them through their big life moments.
